Air Matters is a global air-quality and allergy-forecasting application used by millions of users to track real-time pollution levels, pollen counts, and health-based environmental data across 180 + countries. The client’s goal was to enhance the iOS app’s performance, data accuracy, and user engagement through an improved interface and live data synchronization. (App Store Link)
This project posed a set of technical and data-integration challenges:
Ensuring data transparency, offline usability, and Apple Health Kit integration to enhance trust and health tracking.
Our team rebuilt the iOS architecture around Swift UI and Combine, ensuring efficient data-stream management and reactive updates. We designed a cleaner, modern UI that visualizes air-quality metrics (PM2.5, CO₂, NO₂, O₃, Pollen Index) through intuitive color-coded layers.
The app’s backend was optimized using asynchronous API aggregation, compressing data packets to reduce latency during global queries. A local caching system allows users to access their region’s last-known AQI even when offline. Integration with Health Kit and push notifications ensures users receive alerts during severe air-quality drops or allergy spikes.
We also refined the AQI and pollen index visualization, creating a real-time heatmap overlay and daily/weekly chart system for visual insights.

The Air Matters iOS app achieved a stronger brand presence and consistent global usage. Users now access real-time air quality metrics with improved accuracy and speed. Performance improvements reduced API response time by nearly 40%, while new visual analytics increased user session retention.
health apps globally, strengthening its standing withThe update positioned Air Matters as one of the top-ranked environmental both users and partner APIs.
