The Challenge of the Project

Our Solution & Approach

We started by running user interviews to understand how people used the app for daily reflection and photo-journal entries. Then our design and development team collaborated to deliver a refined, high-engagement app:

- Crafted a clean, calendar-first UI emphasising monthly visual overviews of photo entries and notes.
- Built a modular architecture in Android using Kotlin and local database for offline caching of entries and media so that users experience fast access even without strong connectivity.
- Developed features like voice-to-text entry, search by photo content or tags, and optional cloud sync for backup — offering flexibility and peace of mind to users.
- Optimised for performance: image compression, lazy-loading of media, efficient database queries — keeping load times low and memory usage minimal for low- and mid-range Android devices.

Result & Impact

The updated Pic Diary app delivered a more engaging, faster-loading, and user-friendly journaling experience. Users were able to create meaningful photo-journals with ease, revisit memories through visual prompts, and trust that their data was secure and backed up. Internally, the architecture now supports future enhancements such as AI-driven journaling prompts, deeper insights into user behaviour, and subscription-based premium features.
